Victoria Police recorded 391,325 offences in 2011 to 2012, an increase of 8.2% from the previous year.
Of the 391,325 offences 168,200 were cleared within the same financial year, a clearance rate of 51.7%.
Victoria Police processed 178,897 alleged offenders 10.6% more than the previous year.
208,100 persons were recorded as victims of crime, an increase of 6.2% from the previous year.
Of these, 46,807 were victims of crime against the person, an increase of 14.1% on the previous year.
The number of crimes against the person recorded was 54,454 offences, an increase of 11.8% on the previous year.
The number of family violence related offences during 2011 – 2012 increased by 39.9%.
All categories of crime against the person, except for robbery, have increased between 2011/2012 from the previous year.
Homicide offences increased by 14.6% to 140.
There were 2,044 rape offences, an increase of 11.8%, with female victims accounting for 88.7% of rape victims.
Sex (non-rape) offences also increased by 4.7, with female victims accounting for 79.5% of sex (non-rape) offence victims.
Robbery decreased by 2.0% to 3,286, but armed robberies which accounted for 48.6% or 1,597 of offences, increased by 3.9% with the most common weapon used during an armed robbery being a knife on 50.7% of offences and with firearms being used 17.0% of the time, an increase of 10.1%.
Physical Assault offences increased by 14.0%, with the most common type of location where assaults occurred was in residential locations, which increased by 27.8%.
51.8% of physical assault victims were male, with the number of female victims increasing by 24.2%.
50,382 incidents family violence were reported, an increase of 23.4% from the previous year.
