Tony Abbott, Federal Opposition Leader, announced today that the Coalition government will spend $50 million installing CCTV cameras, funds which will be diverted from the Commonwealth victims of crime fund.
Mr Abbott said “I want our communities to be safe… and that we ought to be able to enjoy our communities free from fear.”
Ted Baillieu, The Victorian Premier, has also promised additional security measures to boost safety in areas prone to crime. Mr Baillieu said that CCTV cameras play a critical role in crime surveillance.
