On Tuesday the 11-12-12 at around 8.30 pm a Protective Services Officer (PSO) was seriously assaulted whilst on patrol near Parliament House. The assailant approached the PSO and after a short conversation struck the PSO with a hammer to his head before stealing his gun and fleeing through the Treasury Gardens. A short time later a thirty-year-old man was found deceased of a gunshot wound in nearby Jollimont Reserve. Police believe the male took his own life using the stolen gun. The Protective Services Officer suffered a depressed fracture of the skull and was surgically treated.
