Stalking by adolescent usually occurs as a result of incidences of bullying as opposed to talking by adults which occurs largely due to rejection.

The majority of stalking offenders are males who have had some form of prior relationship to the victim. Relationships can include former school peers, relatives and former partners with around 70% of all victims being female.

In a large number of such cases  threats of physical violence and even death result in high levels of fear and anxiety in victims.

Victims are most commonly subjected to unwanted approaches as well as stalking via technological means including phone calls, text messaging and e-mails.

Adolescent stalking as an extension of bullying was the most common motivation for offenders, both male and female.
