I was the guard on duty at 3:05 am on Thursday mourning when the hotel was robbed by a person.
The robber entered through the smoking area, jumping over a barrior approx Fivr foot high just as I was entering the area,.
He was wearing a basball cap and full face balaclava. He pointed a semi auto pistol straight into my face and started sceaming at me.
I tried to hold the entry door to the smoking area closed but he ripped the door out of my hand.
I retreated into the venue and was persued by the robber.
He stopped me and pointed the gun between my eyes.
He then gave me a plastic bag and marched me to the cashier with the weapon pointed to the back of my head.
I held the bag while the manager filled it with the cash draw.
The robber then fled the venue the same way as he entered.
I am having alot of trouble dealing with what has happened and have been unable to sleep since the event.
I was asked to work at the hotel this week but declined.

It depends on the nature of the crime and the reasons for not making a claim earlier. Fill in the following form and we have have a better idea of how to advise you: http://victimsofcrime.com.au/enquiry-form/

I agree. this needs to be put to an end. I have been bullied throughout most of my schools life. Last year I recieved 2 emails from my best friend (at the time). Seeing the executive teacher at my school she told me that i cant see my own actions and thats the main reason for the emails, exclusiona and harrasment. People just dont realise that not only does bullying (especially cyber bullying) effect the victim it effects everyone around them. My best friend lost her friends (creaters of the email that i was sent) because she was supporting me. My mum doesnt speak to the girls mums anymore, the new group of GOOD friends i have dont interact with the girls. It needs to be STOP....NOW!!!

Hello VOCCS,

Thanks for writing about posttraumatic growth. I think it is an important topic that deserves much more attention; first of all to study how these feelings of growth emerge and can be facilitated, and second to put these findings into practice.

In my view, it is important to make clear that survivors may not feel any growth/positive feelings due to the trauma, and that that is perfectly fine. A traumatic event is first and foremost a shockingly negative event. Only a part of the survivors has this experience of 'finding benefits', and experiencing growth isn't necessarily the same as recovering well (several studies showed that posttraumatic stress and growth are associated).

Experiencing a positive side to a traumatic event can be very powerful but it can also be present in small things. For example, some children in studies we conducted after traumatic injury told us that they were glad they had been in a super cool ambulance with sirens.

best wishes,
Eva Alisic

This is a good reform and not before time! The only query I have on it is what if the police are just not happy they lost a case and decide to keep at their perceived suspect again and again?

The Catholic Church apologists have been trying to deny that the rulings in "The Crime of Solicitation" (Crimen Sollicitionis) are not applicable today. Well, nobody taught the past generations of children at Catholic schools, nor preached sermons, saying that any Church-related sex crimes, including bestiality, ought to be kept secret from the police. No, so how can we expect and real reform in the Church in Melbourne, or Ireland where a Vatican directive came out telling the Irish bishops they were wrong to report such crimes to the police. "Remove the wicked from among yourselves" is the genuine Christian ruling.

Nerve demyelination of multiple sclerosis has been shown by Dr Roy Swank of my alma mater, the University of Oregon medical School for 50 years (http://www.msrc.co.uk/index.cfm/fuseaction/show/pageid/2906) to be reversed by diet. His data particularly relate to the effects of inclusion of polyunsaturated oils such as cod liver oil and other fish oils on stimulation of remyelination of effected nerve tissue. So it is not surprising to see that similar diets and inclusions of such oils stimulates the neurogenesis required to increase the mass of the hippocampus and thus accelerate recovery from PTSD. Hippocampus mass depletion that has been shown by a number of researchers to occur following PTSD resultant from terrifying shocks such as the recent Japanese earthquakes.
Daniel Siegel (The Neurobiology of We) claims 15-20% of the population may in danger of suffering PTSD. My clinical clients are a special population & 90% of them have, or have had, PTSD.
Current neurogenesis data show that the brain and nerves continue to be affected by the mind and body from the day of conception until at least the day of death, so inclusion of omega-3 fatty acids from whatever source will assist the vigour and health of all human activity and development.
I suggest recommending that all humans particularly PTSD clients, include omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid in the diet as an important part of neurogenesis whatever the purpose: skill development and precision by athletes, increase in genius in musicians, artists, homemakers and scientists or just simply increase in hippocampus mass and recovery from trauma.
