A recent study conducted by the University of Melbourne’s Problem Gambling Research and Treatment Centre found that more than half of the 120 people screened for problem gambling at clinics in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania reported some form of family violence in the previous twelve months.

The study found that problem gambling generally preceded family violence and violence was more likely to happen due to “deeply-rooted and accumulated anger and mistrust”.
