Much past research has linked health risks such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and obesity to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

A recent research of young females found that the higher the number of PTSD symptoms related to the increased likelihood of consuming  fast foods and soft drinks together with unhealthy dieting strategies, such as vomiting. It is suggested that under stress individuals use food to cope with psychiatric symptoms.

Post trauma victims should be aware of any dietary changes to their behaviour and attempt to return to their normal pre-trauma dietary patterns as quickly as possible.
