On the 14-04-13 at around 3.00 am a twenty-five-year-old male was walking through Fitzroy Gardens when he was punched to the head by an unknown male assailant. Three to four other assailants, including one female, then appeared and also physically assaulted the victim and stealing his wallet and mobile phone before fleeing. Two bystanders came to the victim’s aid and an ambulance soon arrived and transported him to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with a fractured spine.
A short time later on the same night a thirty-year-old man was also walking through Fitzroy Gardens when he was approached by an unknown male who requested a cigarette. The victim immediately attempted to flee but was struck from behind and knocked to the ground. Several other assailants then arrived and the victim handed over his iPhone, wallet and passport. The assailants then proceeded to again physically assault the victim, repeatedly kicking him to his head. The victim managed to get back onto his feet and run away pursued by the assailants. The victim sustained a broken wrist.
Melbourne Embona Detectives are investigating the incidents and are calling on witnesses. The assailants were described to be of African appearance.
