Wangaratta SOCIT detectives are currently investigating a number of sexting incidents in the Wangaratta region. Police indicated that there are serious consequences for those involved in sending explicit images, particularly photographs that constitute child pornography, with offences of child pornography including periods of imprisonment. Other options available to police include counselling, cautions and diversions. Police indicated that they are visiting schools to make students aware of the dangers, risks and possible consequences of sexting, as well as encouraging parents to talk with their children about sexting.
