Statistics from September 2011 to September 2012 released by Victoria Police:
- Crime rate up by 5.9%.
- Number of offences up by 27,516 to 395,406 offences, 7.5% increase. 3.
- Crime against a person up by 11.3%, with assaults up by 14.2%.4.
- Crime against property up by 1.7%, with motor vehicles thefts up by 7.6 and theft from motor vehicles up by 4.7%.5.
- Drug offences up by 20.7%.6.
- Other crimes, including public behaviour and justice procedure offences, up by 18.3%.7.
- Family violence related crime up by 37%.
