Armed robbery is a very serious crime that tends to have negative impacts on both employees and  employers of businesses. The National Armed Robbery Monitoring Program (NARMP) was established to monitor and address the increasing trend of armed robberies in Australia.

A past report released by NARMP with relation to the victims of armed robbery indicated:

  • 51% of armed robberies involved the use of knives.
  • 13% of the robberies were carried out with firearms.
  • Males were three times more likely to be victimized than females.
  • Around 38% of armed robberies occurred in retail setting.
  • Around 48% of armed robberies occurred in open settings.
  • 27%of the victims were within commercial establishments.
