Funding to the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness, which is often used to find housing for victims of domestic violence, expires on the 30-06-14.
Fiona McCormack, chief executive of Domestic Violence Victoria, said the majority of family violence services were funded through the housing and homelessness budgets.
She said that “family violence in Victoria accounts for 44% of women’s and children’s homelessness and that the availability of affordable housing is often one of central concerns when deciding to leave a violent relationship”.
Both state and federal governments spend several hundred million dollars annually in Victoria to fund programs aimed at ending homelessness and family violence.
Kevin Andrews, Social Services Minister, said the Government is looking at ways to respond more effectively to the causes of homelessness.
