Local arrested three people following an aggravated carjacking in Aintree on the 19-02-21. At around 4.00 am police were called to the intersection of Woodlea Boulevard and Leakes Road following reports a taxi driver had been assaulted. The driver picked up a woman and two men in the Ballarat area and agreed to drive them to Sydenham before a dispute over the fare ensued. The group demanded their money back and allegedly punched the driver to the back of the head before threatening him with a pole before fleeing on foot towards Taylors Road. A dog squad unit quickly responded and tracked down the offenders who were hiding in a field. Two Sydenham men, aged twenty-two and twenty-eight, and a twenty-eight-year-old Ballarat woman were arrested. The thirty-year-old taxi driver was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.
