From the 01-01-11 to the 31-12-11 there were 51,146 crimes committed against a person reported to the police, or 140 crimes per day, such as a physical assault (38,616 reported incidents).
From the 01-01-12 to the 31-12-12 there were 57,764 crimes committed against a person reported to the police, or 158 crimes per day, such as a physical assault (45,265 reported incidents).
From 2011 to 2012 there has been an increase in crimes against a person of 6,618 or 12.9%.
During 2012 there were 4,346 applicants who were awarded financial assistance through crime compensation. This figure indicated that less than 8% of all victims of crime in Victoria who may have been eligible to access crime compensation were actually given assistance, indicating that some 92% of all eligible victims of crime paid for their own out of pocket, treatment and other expenses as well as failing to receive any Special Financial Assistance when they were actually insured against such by the Victorian State Government.
