The Liberal State Government today, 03-09-12, pledged an extra $16 million for counselling and support services for family violence victims.
$9.25 million will be allocated for Counselling for an extra 1200 women and children a year.
$3.75 million for sexual assault Counselling in order to reduce waiting times.
Tougher laws against perpetrators of domestic violence have also been proposed with breaches an intervention order carrying up to five years incarceration.
Also a doubling of the places for court-directed men’s behaviour programs has also been proposed.
The Liberal State Government have stated that Domestic Violence is an issue the whole community should be concerned about.
