A new training scheme is being introduced for teachers to help them identify and assist children with mental health issues, such as those related to trauma.
I agree with Pamela Snow, Associate Professor at Monash University, that children who display challenging and inexplicable behaviour may have been exposed to some kind of trauma in their early years.
Considering the very large numbers of children who are victims of child abuse I believe the earlier we can identify them and provide them with support the greater is the likelihood of such victims recovering from trauma.
I would also possibly like to go one step further and suggest a scheme where all school age children who are considered at risk by teachers be professionally assessed for the possibility of being victims of abuse by an independent specialist.
