In 2012 the State Government offered $250,000 to The City of Melbourne to install security cameras at nine sites in the Melbourne CBD to increase public safety. Robert Doyle, Melbourne Mayor, said he wants more security cameras but the money offered by the State Government will not cover the installation of these cameras and is yet to take up the offer. Mr Doyle indicated that negotiations are continuing about the amount of money offered by the state as well as the prioritizing site locations.
More cameras more quickly would be well appreciated to increase public safety and to assist in the criminal process.
