Cranbourne Secondary College has developed a Proactive and Preventative Program to tackle violence and anti-social behaviour. The program involves regular interactive classes exposing students to the consequences of violence and covering issues students may come into contact with and the aim being to present issues in a positive manner. Regular visits to the school by Victoria Police provide real-life examples to get the message home. It was reported that the school has fewer suspensions as well as fewer issues with bullying since the introduction of the program.
This appears to be a great initiative and consistent with other models now appearing around the world to address the increasing issue of violence in communities at a preventative level.
