Assault – Koorlong

On Saturday 4 January 2014 at about 6.30 pm a sixty-four-year-old man was driving along Gliderfield Road in Koorlong when two men had parked their vehicle across the road. The elderly victim stopped his motor vehicle and a verbal argument then broke out on the street at which time one of the offenders grabbed the victim’s walking stick and struck him to the face, causing him to fall to the ground, and was repeatedly struck with the walking stick. The offenders fled the scene and the victim was taken to Mildura Base Hospital where he was treated for severe swelling around his eye and lacerations to his face and legs.

Armed Robbery – Highton Supermarket

On the 04-01-14 at around 4.00 pm a male entered the supermarket, located at the corner of Colac and South Valley, and approach a staff member at a cash register and produced a firearm and demanded cash. The offender stole an amount of money before fleeing and was last seen driving along Colac Road in a red Holden Commodore. The offender was described as being aged in his late twenties or early thirties and was missing most of his teeth. Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating armed robbery.

Armed Robberies – Melbourne Newsagencies and Post Offices

From May to September 2013 there has been a string of armed robberies at Newsagencies and Post Offices in Croydon, Rosanna, Preston, Strathmore and Mitcham which detectives believe are linked. Police said that there are certain similarities between the incidents that suggest they are being carried out by the same group of offenders. On each occasion two or three masked males aged in their early twenties with dark skin have produced knives and demanded cash from the shop attendants. Police have indicated concerns about the violent nature of the offending and are appealing for public assistance.

Serious Assault – Birrarung Marr

On the 29th December 2013 two men were seriously assaulted at Birrarung Marr. Police have since charged two seventeen-year-old boys from Sydenham and one sixteen-year-old boy from St Albans with intentionally causing serious injury, assault and robbery.

Indecent Assault – Yarra Bend Park

A thirty-seven-year-old man has been charged with intent to rape, indecent assault and unlawful assault at Yarra Bend Park on Friday the 03-01-14. The incident occurred just before 7.30 pm when the assailant approached the female victim on a walking track in the parkland. The offender absconding from a car park outside the Disability Forensic Assessment and Treatment Service in Fairfield earlier in the day and remains in custody.

Armed Robbery – Mornington Milk Bar

On Saturday 28 December 2013 at about 2.30 pm a man armed with a knife entered the Milk Bar on Wilsons Road in Mornington. The offender approached the counter and made demands for money from a female staff member. Other staff members quickly came to the victim’s aid using a golf club and forced the offender from the shop. The offender fled with a small amount of cash and is described as being aged in his early to mid twenties, medium build and approximately 177 cm tall.

Physical Assault – North Fitzroy

On New Years Eve a male victim suffered multiple facial fractures and damage to his teeth after being assaulted in Edinburgh Gardens in North Fitzroy. The thirty-one-year-old Noble Park man was celebrating at the St Georges Road park when at about 11.30pm he noticed a scuffle between a number of unknown parties on the northern side of the park. The male victim was then approached by an unknown man who punched him to the face causing him to fall to the ground unconscious. The victim was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for surgery.  The offender is described as being Caucasian, aged in his early twenties, thin build, black hair and wearing a white t-shirt.
