According to the Victims of Crime Commissioner the ACT Victims of Crime Scheme is an extremely complicated process and there are often extensive delays.
Victims can miss out on compensation because their injuries are not considered to be ‘extremely serious’ according to John Hinchey.
He also said that “there is a significant number of people that don’t apply once they find out what they need to do, or drop out of the system once the process is underway.”
Simon Corbell, Attorney-General, said that he is considering moving the scheme out of the courts to reduce the processes that victims of crime have to go through.
