Further financial support to victims of violent crimes was pledged this month, September 2012, by China to help stem the trauma resulting from such criminal offences.
Each year in China there are some three million victims of crimes which may now be able to benefit from the program.
The program targets those who have been seriously injured or the relatives of those killed in violent crimes.
It is recognized that those who commit violent crimes do not have the means to compensate the victims or their families who often face serious economic difficulties after losing a bread winner due to physical and/or psychological injury.
Financial awards made to victims are usually equivalent to thirty-six-months their average salary which comes from government financial departments.
We are now seeing countries from all over the world implementing program to financially assist victims of crime. In Victoria we have had a Crime Compensation scheme since 1967.
