During 2010-2011 Victorian crime rose by 8.2%.
Violent crimes, such as physical and sexual assault, rose by 11.8%.
Family violence rose by 23.4%.
Domestic violence groups suggest that the increase in family violence rates indicate that police are doing a better job but the chief executive of Domestic Violence Victoria, Fiona McCormack, believes that services for victims are not keeping pace with referrals which have doubled in the past three years.
Premier Baillieu announced today that his Government will spend another $16 million over the next four years to help support and protect women and children who are victims of domestic abuse.
