In 2010 there were 28,500 victims of assault in Victoria, 15,850 males and 12,030 females, with most victims aged between 25 and 34 years with male victims most likely to be assaulted by a unknown assailant in a community setting and females by a known assailant in a residential location. There were 94 victims of homicide of whom 59% were male with 70% of victims knowing the offender. There were 3,466 victims of sexual assault of whom 2,995 were female. There were 2,732 victims of robbery with 77% of victims being male with 90% committed by an unknown offender .
In 2010 there were some 35,000 to 40,000 victims of serious crime in Victoria of which some 5,000 made a successful crimes compensation application which means that more than 30,000 Victorians did not access their state funded crimes compensation entitlements.
