The Moreland Council has accepted the State Government offer of $250,000 to install closed circuit television cameras in public areas identified by police as in need of surveillance.
Following Jill Meagher’s murder in 2012 the state government ordered an audit of camera black spots and then made funding available.
It is extraordinary to believe that it has taken so long for local councils to take up thise government offer to install CCTVs and that so few councils have done so to date.
