From 2012 to 2013 there have been more than 60,000 family violence cases reported to Victoria Police, an increase of 21.6%.
Family violence accounted for more than 30% of all crimes against the person and is partly responsible for a 12.5% increase in abductions and kidnappings during the past financial year.
According to police 40% of every assault that happens in Victoria occurs in someone’s home.
Victoria police have said that family violence is likely to drive the state’s crime statistics for at least the next few years.
