From March 2012 to March 2013 there were 1049 assaults in the City of Moreland and more than half were as a result of Family Violence.
Dean McGowan, Moreland Police Inspector, described the increase in family violence was a ‘worrying trend’. He said that violence against women is intolerable and that everyone should stand up and not remain silent’.
Police Inspector McGowan said that Moreland police had formed a specialist unit targeting family violence.
In Moreland there was an overall 5% rise in crime, with 11,481 offences recorded. Crimes against people rose 6.8% to 1444 and crimes against property rose 2.5% to 8431.
