The male offender entered the grocery store at around 3.00 pm and threatened the shop attendant with a knife. The attendant opened the cash register and the offender stole the cash as well as alcohol and cigarettes before fleeing.

In 2010 in Victoria there were 1433 reported victims of armed robbery with victims of such crimes often suffering significant symptoms of trauma. Crimes involving knives is an escalating problem within Australia. A recent survey showed that more than 80% of youths surveyed on the street admitted to having a knife on their person in the last few weeks and that carrying a knife or an offensive implement often begins at ages 13-14 years.
